[PROSTOR] & LAMA TWINNING 03/10/2025

Rethinking Spaces and Places through Art

From 11th-15th September 2025, curator and co-founder of Culture Hub Croatia Jasmina Saric visited LAMA’s new art residency A dimora, located in the Montagna Fiorentina.

The exchange aimed to investigate the idea of rethinking spaces and places through relational and generative mechanisms, leveraging the role of artists as key actors for social and civic change and increasing the perception of art and its value in regenerative processes and community building.

The exchange included site visits, meetings with artists and local community and participating in final preparation and inauguration of the newly produced works by this year’s residency artists Andrea Grasselli, Chiara Gambirasio, Gaia Coals, Martina Cioffi and Samuel Rosi. Since the collaboration between our residencies was established immediately after the twinning selection, and this opportunity for a Split residency was included in the Open Call, I had been informed continuously during the process of selection.

Once in Londa, Twinning programme included:

  • getting familiar with the site and its context
  • meeting with the organizing team, getting to know the programme
  • visit to the artists studios and meetings with artists
  • 1 on 1 meeting with the selected artists for the residency in Prostor
  • visiting the exhibition sites and participating in the final setting-ups
  • meeting with the local community and participation in the local events
  • visit to the local cultural association in Pontasieve for the screening of works and artist talk with Andrea Grasselli, one of A dimora’s artists
  • participation in the final A dimora event on 15/9

Residency management, rural ecosystems, production of art in public space and community based practices were some of the topics discussed. We also exchanged our experiences in balancing the different perspectives and expectations of various stakeholders, while exploring the in situ methods of adding ecological and cultural value to different public spaces, fostering innovation in site-specific, socially engaged art.

The visit set ground for the collaboration between the two residency sites, Prostor and A dimora, so it will continue with hosting one of A dimora’s artists, Chiara Gambirasio, in Prostor in November. Chiara Gambirasio was selected due to her playful and imaginative approach to the site and artistic interventions that blend in the environment they are built in. As in Londa, her project will serve as a bridge to build synergies between Prostor and its surroundings.
