Celebrating Community & Culture
Since 2006, our partner PLAI have brought people together through cultural and community-driven events, including the PLAI Festival, JAZZx, and BEGA! projects. With the support of over 1,500 volunteers, these initiatives highlight the value of collaboration, learning, and meaningful connections.
The Volunteering Academy
Part of the PLAI Cultural Center and supported by the Flex Foundation, the Volunteering Academy (VA) provides a hands-on learning platform for volunteers. Through workshops, discussions with industry professionals, and real-world projects, VA fosters a civic, cultural, and creative ecosystem centered on sustainability and social responsibility.

Exploring Space & Sustainability
A recent workshop on January 28th examined the concept of space, sustainability in construction, and circular materials. Volunteers translated their insights into physical models, considering non-invasive interventions for a new open-air learning space in a forested area on the city’s edge.
The pavilion created as part of the Future DiverCities project has become a space where volunteers explore and understand the mechanisms of shaping a holistic environment through materiality and context. Building on the pilot’s developments, it reclaims a new space for the community, establishing an open-air learning platform.
Masterclass on Project Management & Sustainability
Oana Mondoc, a community developer and project innovator, shared her experience in ecology, technology, and the arts. Her expertise bridges digital and grassroots initiatives, focusing on sustainable practices and resource conservation.
The workshop was built around her professional experience and how a single animal can influence an entire ecosystem. At the same time, it explored human actions in a rural environment that can support both the ecosystem and local biodiversity about the livelihood of a community.
Essentially, it was an open discussion about people living in harmony with nature, as well as human interactions aimed at a common good—one that ultimately has a broader impact than just the specific area where an initiative takes place.
This workshop is part of the Volunteering Academy program, where we aim to learn from each speaker not only through their life experiences but also by understanding the importance of volunteering.
Without volunteering and the passion we bring to various projects, we wouldn’t be able to achieve the same results and meaningful experiences.
Ongoing Engagement
The Volunteering Academy continues to support diverse projects and learning opportunities. With a focus on sustainability, culture, and community building, it cultivates an environment for knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
