Liepaja municipality institution “Culture department” is the public body in charge of cultural, artistic and creative policy in the city. It leads the development of the cultural sector. Liepaja is the 3d largest city in Latvia. Liepaja is a former industrial city. The city has focused in the past 26 years on revitalizing after the collapse of the Soviet Union, with lots of cultural projects contributing to regeneration. Priorities for the next few years include building the capacity of the local cultural sector and cross-sectoral cooperation.
Liepaja Culture department was a partner of Future DiverCities 2016-2020 and is a candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2027 title.
