BIODIVERSITY IN ACTION @ TINCON BERLIN

Public Art Lab invites you to a three-day Biodiversity Lab to explore creative approaches to urban storytelling, sensitive mapping, and artistic narratives.

Nature Writing with Michaela Vieser

Renowned nature writing author Michaela Vieser will lead a biodiversity workshop at TINCON Berlin, guiding participants through an exploration of non-human species in the nearby Gleisdreieck Park. The workshop invites young people to engage with the art of nature writing and reflect on their relationship with the natural world. Click here for more information.

Digital Calligraffiti for Biodiversity

Selected messages and reflections will be creatively transformed into visual statements by Digital Calligraffiti artists and projected onto public walls. This innovative format merges traditional calligraphy with urban graffiti to bring urgent topics like biodiversity and climate change into the heart of society. Messages are drawn live on an interactive light table and projected in real-time, following the motto: “The walls are our canvas!” Click here for more information.

TINCON (Teenage Internetwork Convention) is a conference and festival on digital youth culture and climate action, created by and for young people aged 13 to 25. Taking place from 26–28 May in Berlin, it features talks, workshops, performances, and creative experiences across a wide range of topics relevant to the next generation.

TWINNING IN BERLIN

Craftopia: Let’s Ripple Together

Join the Craftopia team in folding origami butterflies—symbols of biodiversity and transformation. Inspired by the butterfly effect from chaos theory, this hands-on workshop explores how even the smallest actions can spark meaningful change. Every gesture and word has the potential to create a ripple effect—within ourselves, our communities, and the wider world.

Craftopia is Public Art Lab’s twinning partner from Thessaloniki, Greece, selected through the European Creative Hubs Network (ECHN) as part of the Future DiverCities project.

In May, Craftopia will visit Public Art Lab, our pilot partner in Berlin. As part of the twinning program, Craftopia will participate in the three-day Biodiversity Lab (26–28 May) at TINCON Berlin, exploring creative approaches to urban storytelling, sensitive mapping, and artistic campaigning.

How can we engage with biodiversity in times of climate change? How can we raise awareness through artistic campaigns?
Craftopia will present a workshop titled The Butterfly Effect for Climate Change!
Be there when small butterflies spark big movements.

PODCAST #4 - STOCKHOLM’S BANQUET OF FERAL OCCUPATIONS

Stockholm’s Banquet of Feral Occupations – Mechanisms of Protection

The Banquet of Feral Occupations premiered at Krater in 2023, where Trajna served up complex discussions alongside delicious food. A diverse group of public figures — including university professors, artists, activists, and cultural institutions directors — were invited to collectively explore the shared responsibility of maintaining Krater.

The Banquet originated as part of Feral Occupations, a series of artworks presented at the Graphic Biennial in Ljubljana. These works challenge participants to consider the production and protection of public goods: public land, public discourse, public workplaces, and public ecologies.

A COLLECTIVE PICNIC IN THE COMMON GARDEN - MARSEILLE

HEARTWARMING PICNIC IN THE COMMON GARDEN

On Saturday, April 26, the common garden came to life with a joyful, hearty picnic shared by the residents of the La Belle de Mai neighborhood in Marseille. A giant cloth, lovingly sewn together by many hands, was laid out to welcome the diverse and delicious dishes prepared for the occasion.

While the children delighted in a variety of activities, their mothers gathered to imagine how the garden could evolve, dreaming up ways to transform it into a lasting space for community and connection.

RIVER ECOLOGIES @ ELBE, GERMANY

Public Art Lab is expanding its model of sensitive mapping and storytelling—first developed at Spreepark Art Space along the River Spree—to the River Elbe and the town of Wittenberge. The 2025 programme launched with sense-in-placeworkshops such as The Impossibility of Drawing the River and immersive Nature Sound sessions, setting the tone for deep engagement with local communities, ecologies, and narratives.

This initiative is a collaborative project between the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (Prof. Myriel Milićević), the FH Potsdam Faculty 1 Transfer Lab (Katja Stephan), and the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (Prof. Heike Molitor and Eva Greischel), in partnership with THW Brandenburg. It is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
