Future DiverCities at TINCON Berlin: Biodiversity in Action!
This week, our partner Public Art Lab (Berlin, Germany) brings the Biodiversity in Action programme to TINCON / re:publica, a vibrant three-day conference and festival on digital youth culture and climate action, taking place from 26–28 May in Berlin.
As part of the Future DiverCities Twinning Programme, Public Art Lab has invited Craftopia from Thessaloniki, Greece, to participate in its Biodiversity Lab — a collaborative platform exploring how creative methods can contribute to ecological awareness and transformation in urban settings.
Led by Public Art Lab, the Biodiversity Lab is an interdisciplinary space within TINCON where artists, designers, youth activists, and creatives come together to explore new approaches to urban biodiversity through artistic interventions. The Lab fosters exchange between international partners, encourages experimentation, and highlights how artistic practices can support climate resilience and civic participation. Public Art Lab contributes its long-standing experience in connecting art, media, and public space, curating an open and inclusive environment where young participants are encouraged to co-create, discuss, and reflect on biodiversity challenges in their cities.
The Butterfly Effect for Climate Change — Workshop by Craftopia
In this participatory session, young people will create symbolic butterflies using recycled materials while reflecting on the interconnectedness of ecological systems and the power of small actions. Inspired by the metaphor of the butterfly effect, the workshop invites participants to imagine how minor interventions—whether artistic, activist, or communal—can ripple outward to create larger environmental and social shifts.
The workshop integrates urban storytelling, sensitive mapping, and creative campaigning to foster a deeper understanding of biodiversity in urban contexts. It also creates a space for emotional engagement and imagination, allowing youth to express their hopes, fears, and ideas about climate change through art.
TINCON (Teenage Internetwork Convention) is a conference and festival on digital youth culture and climate action, created by and for young people aged 13 to 25. Taking place from 26–28 May in Berlin, it features talks, workshops, performances, and creative experiences across a wide range of topics relevant to the next generation.
