(Re)generative narrative approach… by Innocamp PL/ASHOKA – 23/04/2024

On May 2, 2024, Innocamp PL proposed a new webinar session entitled “(Re)generative narrative approach to urban change-making – lessons from Liepaja”, facilitated by Ashoka fellows Adam Jagiello-Rusilowski and Markus Raivio.

During the webinar, Innocamp PL presented their visit to Latvia and their collaboration with one of the project partners, Liepaja, as a case study for changemakers’ capacity building.

They specifically discussed their work with the Liepaja team and the local coalition. In Liepaja, this coalition comprises individuals from various backgrounds, including local NGOs, entrepreneurs, the director of Technical University’s New Media Art, culture project managers, a representative from Karosta prison, and students.

This case study highlighted the collaboration among multiple stakeholders in revitalizing abandoned spaces in Karosta, such as the prison, the tram to the beach, and the military concrete structures.

The presentation also touched on the participants’ experiences, the outcomes of brainstorming sessions with students on integrating Karosta, and a canvas created to depict storytelling and the desired narrative environment.

Innocamp PL, for instance, assisted in reshaping the Karosta area’s story (inspired by the “Beauty and the Beast” story), focusing on themes like rebirth, nature’s beauty, the treasures of Karosta, and the well-being it offers residents.

The webinar provided insight into the Liepaja team’s process, expectations, and future plans, as well as the role of the diverse local coalition in the project.
